LCAQuick live webinar

Life cycle assessment calculates the potential environmental impacts and carbon footprint of a building design across the life cycle. 

This webinar provides a basic introduction to using the BRANZ building life cycle assessment tool, LCAQuick. It builds on the life cycle assessment webinar by providing a practical demonstration of LCAQuick, going over the basic inputs and outputs of the tool.

The latest version of the tool includes:

• evaluation of different building typologies
• a reference building library for:
  • 10 commercial office buildings in three climate zones
  • 10 stand-alone houses, one medium-density housing and one apartment building in three climate zones
• environmental impact of materials used in commercial office building and residential housing construction in Aotearoa New Zealand
• operational energy use from grid electricity
• comparison of alternative constructions based on embodied carbon
• a tool to calculate material quantities of windows and doors based on window/door type and frame material
• a Green Star outputs worksheet that puts LCA results into a format that can be pasted directly into the New Zealand Green Building Council's LCA calculator tool [XLSX, 383 KB]
• a separate editable PDF template report to support a Green Star submission for obtaining the LCA points under credit 19A.

Jarred Butler, BRANZ Building Environmental Scientist

Jarred is a researcher in the BRANZ Transition to a zero-carbon built environment programme. His key research areas are building life cycle assessment, energy simulation and BIM. He also works on the development and support of BRANZ’s growing library of LCA/carbon footprinting tools.
